Sacrifice: Closeness to Allah and Worship

“Whatever good deed you do and whatever vow you make, surely Allah knows it. And the oppressors have no (real and sincere) helpers.” (Surat al-Baqara, 2/270)

In our religion, sacrifice means the slaughter of certain types of animals for the sake of Allahu Teala, for the purpose of gaining closeness to Allah and for worship. Goat is one of the most preferred animals for sacrifice. The main purpose of sacrifice is to gain the consent of Allah and the sacrifice is made with this intention. The meat and skin of the victim are delivered to those in need, providing both material and spiritual benefits.

In the Holy Quran, it is stated as follows that not the meat of the sacrifice, but the piety and sincerity in the hearts of the people who sacrifice will reach Allah:

“Neither their meat nor their blood reaches Allah; It is only your piety that will reach Him. So Allah has given them to your use, so that you may honor Him (جل جلاله) for showing you the right path. Give good news to those who follow the path of goodness!” (Surah Hajj, 22/37)
